About the event

3-HOUR, INTERACTIVE VIRTUAL WORKSHOP

“We need to examine all aspects of our practice as world language teachers, from curriculum, anti-racist resources, representation, classroom management and teaching styles.” Devon, La Libre Language.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND THIS WORKSHOP?

If you are a Spanish Language Educator that serves Black American Students, whether in an urban, suburban or in a rural school community, then Spanish S.W.A.G.™ 2022 Professional Learning Experience is the workshop tailored just for you!

In this workshop we will collectively learn, laugh and grow together as we discover how to cultivate a classroom culture of feedback for increasing near-native fluency in the target language, and how to increase student buy-in for learning the Spanish Language.

WHAT WILL WE COVER?

- How to utlitze Spanish S.W.A.G.™ as a mnemonic device and accountability tool

- Concepts of language isolation and its impact on the Black American Community

- Map our language ancestry for ourselves and how to incorporate this practice in the classroom

- Understand the significance of interweaving Afro-Latinidad and promoting representation within the pedagogy that drives your Spanish Language instruction.

WORKSHOP BENEFITS

This 3-hour interactive workshop will connect participants with other reflective practitioners from across the country who seek to strengthen their capacity as a culturally-responsive, Spanish Language Educator. Participants will gain new insight through intentional collaboration and discussion to add to their equity practice. Building on the work of Carter G. Woodson, the overarching purpose of this workshop is not only to uplift Spanish Language Educators but to further develop the effectiveness of our instruction and to deepen the connections that we make with the beautiful and intelligent, Black American Youth that we serve.
