Hook 'Em with the Beat! Hip Hop in the Spanish Classroom (Part 1)

By the end of this session, participants will:

• understand how music can improve student engagement and second language acquistion
• identify how to create effective, content-driven mnemonic devices
• use Hip Hop and other genres of music to reinforce the alphabet, days/months, numbers 0-30, subject pronouns, ser vs. estar, regular -AR verbs (present tense and preterite), and por vs. para
• create a "Yo soy" poem/rap verse and learn how to facilitate a rap showcase
• collaborate with teachers to create a mnemonic to use in their classroom
