Targeted development for world language teachers who want to accelerate the effectiveness of their instruction, strengthen their connections with students and increase cognitive engagement through cultural responsiveness.

Rationale & Study Group Overview

"Teaching skills without cohorent, meaning-rich ideas is hallow - teaching mechanics without meaning is counter to the way humans learn" (Carol Ann Tomlinson).

This seven-week, application-based experience is tailored specifically for world langauge educators who are reflective practicioners that seek to maximine learning and joy in their classrooms. Facilitated by Jessie Feliz, participants will engage in meaningful, intentional and impactful professional development in order to strengthen their capacity as a language educator, deepen the connections they cultivate in their classrooms, and increase student motivation and learning outcomes.

The focus areas of study for the cohort are:

• cultural responsiveness and classroom culture
• intentional lesson design and reflection
• increasing cognitive engagement

Cohort Expectations

Participants must be able to attend every session and agree to the following expectations:

• arrive on time and with a growth mindset
• videos should be on during the entire session for authentic engagement and connection
• complete independent learning and field experience tasks
• communicate with a Jessie Feliz, LLC team member in the event of an emergency/absence

Duration & Time

This cohort will meet for seven sessions from Wednesday, October 5th-November 16th, on a weekly basis from 7:00-8:30 PM (EST).

Program Cost

This program costs $595.

We recognize that this is a financial committment. We encourage teachers to inquire with their school administrator or employer to receive financial sponsorship for this professional development opportunity, as needed.
