SUMMER CAMP THEME: ALREDEDOR DEL MUNDO / AROUND THE WORLD
This summer, scholars will learn how to engage in basic conversation in the target language about our planet and the Spanish-speaking world from a geographical perspective. Each day, we will welcome each other, say affirmations, give shout outs, review learning targets and get our minds and bodies ready to learn with a quick, cardio warm-up activity, followed by our Spanish Language Lesson. Music, dance, arts-n-crafts and games will be interwoven throughout the program. Students will also participate in an on-site, STEM workshop in collaboration with Arts-n-Scraps. Water provided daily and grab-and-go snacks will be distributed at dismissal.
*Masks are required, regardless of vaccination status for both staff and students.
By the end of the summer program, scholars will be able use Spanish S.W.A.G.™ to:
-
identify the seven continents and the two major oceans (el Atlántico y el Pacífico) on a map
-
pronounce the names of the seven continents and the two major oceans
-
identify and pronounce the United States of America and Michigan
-
identify and pronounce the cardinal directions in Spanish
-
identify the four main regions where Spanish is spoken in the world
-
state where they're from and where they live and ask others about their origins
-
identify/pronounce different landscapes
-
state what continent they wish to visit in the future
Students will understand the importance of using Spanish S.W.A.G.™ when engaging in conversation in the target language. Students will also learn about various Spanish-speaking communities and cultural practices in an effort to strengthen their understanding of their own culture and develop awareness and empathy for others.
For a final demonstration of learning, students will collectively and individually express where they live, where their ancestors are from and what continent they want to visit in the future in the target language.
Space is limited for our in-person, summer camp. If you would like to enroll your child in our online learning community for the 2022-23 Academic Term, please complete the inquiry form below to join our mailing list to be the first to learn about our new programs, as the information becomes available.
